Mummy’s Cucumber Raita (Cucumber Yoghurt Sauce)

Mummy's Cucumber Raita is a yogurt side that goes great with everything from pulao, khichdi to pita. My mom used to make this weekly to eat with rotlis, a flat wheat bread.

Time: 20 minutes


  • 1 cup whole milk yogurt

  • ½ cup cucumber (shredded, keep the juice)

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 tsp Zameen Black Pepper (crushed)

  • 1tsp brown mustard seeds


  1. Roast the mustard seeds.

  2. Heat a pan with seeds. They will start to pop when they are ready. Remove from the heat.

  3. Drop the seeds into a mortar and pestle to grind. Set aside.

  4. Mix the yogurt and shredded cucumber in a bowl.

  5. Add roasted ground mustard, Zameen Black Pepper, and salt.
